She Walks in Magnificence is the twenty second album within the iconic British songwriter’s spectacular catalogue. Whereas Faithfull is greatest recognized for her Rolling Stones-penned 1964 hit “As Tears Go By” and her prog-rock leaning 1979 album Damaged English, She Walks in Magnificence is the singer’s first foray into the artwork of spoken phrase poetry. The venture was created with Warren Ellis, alongside Nick Cave and Brian Eno.
Faithfull pays tribute to nineteenth century British Romantic poets on the album, reciting her personal variations of poems from the likes of Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats, amongst others. Ellis constructed soundscapes for Faithfull to talk over in her unmistakable smoke-aged voice whereas Cave supplemented the recordings with swaths of piano. Eno helped produce by including sonic textures on “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” and “The Bridge of Sighs”.
In a press release on her web site, Faithfull shared that the album was a venture she at all times dreamed of making.
